More On Trip, And A Boo-Boo

30 Aug

Hi guys! If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed. TQ for visiting! :)

So WC and I had a mini adventure of driving up to Sipitang yesterday with his new car, just for the fun of it. It was such a beautiful day that morning, and it was such an fun drive down south of Sabah. We even got to eat at Kedai Kopi Sen Fat in Mesapol, but it’s not such a nice experience anymore IMO, simple because now it’s just like any other shophouse, unlike how it was before when it was burned down. (You can read and see pics of how it looks like here; luckily I managed to snap some pics of it then huh!) Don’t get me wrong, the food is still delicious, but we really missed the old shophouse feel to it.. Oh well.

BUT…

I think WC took it a bit too far that day (of not having me drive the way back), and of him doing and carrying things like he used to pre-surgery.. and imagine, even insisting on cooking dinner himself, AND pounding meat only 3 days after surgery! I mean, who the heck does that?? I scolded him and said to let me do it instead, but nope, he insisted on doing it and saying he’s fine.

So then what happened..? A boo-boo, that’s what happened!

On the drive back to KK yesterday, his wound started bleeding, so we had to just drive home straight and clean the wound. It was then that I found out, when I had to open his bandage, that I have a VERY BAD side reaction to an open wound! I mean, he probably accidentally broke his stitches because blood was trickling out non-stop! Urgh.. It almost made me puke right then and there, and OMG, it took all my might to just carry on and clean his wound and to replace with a new bandage! And not trying to sound like a drama queen, but seriously, I almost fainted right there in the toilet while trying to clean his wound! LOL!

I guess there goes my chance of trying to apply the healthcare medical jobs and become a nurse or something! Haha..

But I have to say that I’m proud of myself for not fainting when cleaning his wound for the second AND third time last night! (yes, the blood stained his shirts a few more times last night!) Even WC commented that he’s proud of me lol..

Luckily he has another doctor’s check up appointment today; at least he will help replace the bandages to an even better one than the one I did!

So please guys, if any of you see WC today, or even this week for that matter, PLEASE tell him to take it easy! Tell him I said so! This guy paling lah degil tahap gaban; don’t want to listen to me! Bikin geram!

Thursday Already?? | Weekend Trip

29 Apr

It seemed like it was just yesterday that I was still at Miri, attending my younger brother’s graduation!

Anyways, I’m sure y’all are wondering how my extremely short weekend trip to Miri went, aren’t you?

In short, it was just so-so.

Sure, the phototaking session in the daytime with the whole family during the graduation was awesome, even though the sun was so bloody hot and the graduation hall’s aircon weren’t turned on yet and we were sweating buckets, but come nighttime, parents attended the actual graduation ceremony (we actually got lost on the way sending parents there!), while the rest of us kids went off on our own. Big bro and gf as well as yours truly felt adventurous enough to go for a drive with sis Jewelle’s new and uber powerful car and checked out Boulevard and Bintang Plaza malls. I went gaga over the half-off sale on some stores and went slightly overboard in shopping for WC! Haha..

I actually wanted to check out some of the late night scene there at Miri, but seeing how everybody else was tired, I got bored and slept early. Around 10.30pm. On a Saturday. Yes, pathetic, I know.

That was pretty much it. Took a flight back to KK with big bro and gf at 11.15am the next day (had to sit alone again! Me no likey!), and seeing WC waiting at the arrival gate with a smile back to his face lifted my mood back up. :)

So..

Now that that’s over and done with, now I gotta think of some gift ideas for mother’s day. What to get or do this time around ya?? Hmmm…

Oh and, ooh.. a new handphone’s is coming! Oh yeah!

Night out with Sabah Bloggers at Lembah Impian

28 Feb

So Wei Chuen and I arrived at Lembah Impian for the mini gathering of Sabah bloggers (and Gallivanter), met the group, and ate straightaway!

Me likey the CNY decor!

I honestly was not full that night; the food sold were only so-so. We had to buy coupons to purchase the food and drinks, and I think overall WC spent around RM50 at least there for us both. Masih lapar that time, but what to do. Tahannn… WC felt the same (lapar); guess he won’t be reading up on http://www.weightlosssupplement.org either hehe..

Anyhoo..

We met a few new faces there that night.. well, to me and WC at least. We haven’t been going around blog hopping for a while now, so we’ve lost touch with the other Sabah bloggers out there.

Our table.. it looks more like a photogs’ teh tarik session or something, with most of the bloggers bringing their own DSLRs and videocams, including yours truly! :p

Some bloggers from the first ever Sabah Bloggers Gathering ;)

After dinner, we all took this group photo; a must whenever at gatherings! ;) (photo courtesy of Greg)

After that, we then walked over to Cabana Cafe for some drinks and to have more chit-chat time!

Oh no, whose pic does this belong to again?? Greg, is it yours? I’ve forgotten, but I do like this pic, as I was trying to pose like Massy‘s signature pose. Hehe.. Thanks Greg for the behind-the-scene photo!

It was great meeting up with old friends as well as with new friends. Can’t wait to have another mini gathering like this! ;)

To end this post, I leave y’all with one of my favourite photos of the nite, taken by Pai:

A priceless moment captured in photo :)

Penang Trip 09, Day 1 – Part 2

25 Oct

Continuation from Penang Trip 09, Day 1 – Part 1

So after doing a reasonable damage on the wallet (aka shopping) at Prangin Mall, we then walked back to the hotel to get some rest before dinner, and on the walk back at Jalan Macalister, we stopped at:

Yi Garden

Yi Garden coffeeshop and tried their Wantan Mee and Sui Kow

wantan mee

I know the dish above may look very oily to you guys, but surprisingly, the overall dish tasted very light, especially the noodle. Also, there’s pork skin inside! Yummmmyyyyyyyyyy!

wantan soup

This is the Sui Kow, it’s actually dumplings in a clear broth soup. Altogether, we spent RM9.50, reasonable amount for the dishes above. To those of you who eat pork, you have to try the above dishes! Sedappp bahh!

Then after resting at the hotel room, we went back down for dinner 40 minutes later and tried a restaurant nearby called Mama’s Nonya Cuisine. I’ve read some reviews of this place and they all highly recommended this place, so since it’s so close to our hotel, we just have to try it, right?

Right!!!

Mama's

In front of Mama’s

inside Mama's

Tadaaa! The inside, fully packed! The place isn’t that big to begin with, but the small space gives it a more home-y feeling, don’t you think?

We were lucky to even get a table that Saturday night because the place was packed with customers!

appetiser

The appetizer.. dried anchovies

Penang veggie

One of Mama’s House Specialty, the Penang local veggie called the Sayur Rumi, fried with eggs, prawns and eggs. Very interesting dish I must say, but it’s actually quite delicious!

Fish stomach

This dish was also recommended to us: the Perut Ikan, or Fish Stomach. Here’s what is says on the menu:

The “must try” Nyonya curry cooked with seasoned and pickled fish stomach, herbal leaves and vegetables for its unique taste.

Another interesting dish; we’ve eated fish stomach before, and it was nothing like this dish here. There must’ve been at least 4 kinds of veggies + herbal leaves in it! Very unique taste.

curry fish head

And of course, THE ultimate Mama’s House Specialty: The Claypot Curry Fish (Fish Curry Nyonya Style). You can choose either fish head, fish meat, Black Pomfret, or even the White Pomfret inside it. Since it’s a curry fish dish, of course we got the fish head, and OMG, we now know why this is a must order dish; the Nyonya style of curry really makes a difference as compared to the usual curry fish head here in KK!

Argh.. we miss this dish already!!

Tapun..

Forgot the total price of our meal (I’ll edit this part later), but all I remember was that it was so darn cheap as compared to dining here in KK! Sigh.. Penang people are so lucky they get to eat for cheap..

Even though we were stuffed to the max, and after getting the green light to walking late at night around there from the hotel staff, we forced ourselves to walk back to Jalan Macalister to get some late munchies.

food stalls

Jalan Macalister comes alive at night; food stalls everywhere!! Syok!!

We just didn’t like walking near the road though; all those kapcai bikes are EVERYWHERE! And gosh, Penang drivers sure love to use their horns! Sikit-sikit honk! But that’s a good practice to warn people lah. It’s just that the sound of the horn always made me jump, even when it wasn’t meant for us!

Also, you have to watch your belongings and the road the whole time. Snatch theft can easily happen here if you’re not careful, although I didn’t see any of such incident that night.

DSCN3135

The aunty who we noticed made chee cheong fun non-stop, so of course we went over to her stall to try it ourselves! We noticed that their chee cheong fun isn’t like ours here in KK, i.e. dry with thick sauce over it.. their version looks like this:

chee cheong fun

This is Penang’s version of Chee Cheong Fun.. filled with gravy and other fillings! Something different, but we like it!

(Excuse the quality.. my assistant photographer isn’t so pro when it comes to photographing food, especially with low light)

We also bought some popiah and other munchies, but my assistant photog forgot to take pics of those! *hits forehead*

And with all those food, we happily walked back to the hotel, and munched while watching tv, and fell asleep soon after.

Penang Trip – Day 1 done! Stay tuned to Day 2!

** You may notice that the coffeeshops/food stalls above are very old-fashioned, and to be honest, we prefer to go to these kinds of eateries as compared to very fancy restaurants (with their Naples Fl custom doors and such). Also, the older the chef/cook the better; you know that they have experience in cooking those dishes, thus you can almost guarantee that it will taste good!
