I bought Seah’s Spices Singapore Bak Kut Teh packet at Consfood for RM6.10 a few months back, but it was only a few days ago that I got to use it.
I was so glad I did, because it was oh so good!
I’m serious! Even the hubby, who is a very picky eater, said the same thing!
The instructions at the back of the packet. It’s SO simple to prepare, just the sachet of spices, some pork ribs, 8 pieces of garlic (with skin intact, like the instructions said), and finally, the most important one, water.
Before this, I used to cook bak kut teh and put a lot of water in it, so in the end, I had to put extra ingredients like soy sauce, salt or sugar to make it tasty again. This time, I made sure I followed the water instructions exactly.
So exact that I even took out my measurement cup to measure the 1500ml/50oz of water!
But following the correct water measurement proved to be a good thing, because in the end, the soup tasted de-li-cious!
The end product, I also added some canned button mushrooms to the soup
I mean, the instructions were SO simple, you don’t even have to add any sugar or water or any other ingredient while the soup is cooking! All you have to watch out for is the fire; it can’t be to big nor too small. When the instruction says boil, you boil. When it says simmer, you simmer.
1500ml is not a lot; I only managed to fill 2 medium sized bowl, which is actually just nice for the hubby and I.
The spices taste came out quite strong, too. Which we love!
To those who have tried this bak kut teh packet before and it came out not so tasty or the spices taste did not come out, then they must’ve put too much water in.
So remember people! Follow the exact water measurement if you want to have a very yummy soup! ;)
I highly recommend this spice packet, and am definitely going to buy it again!
I know what you must be thinking, but no, this is NOT a paid post. LOL.
Oh, and I also cooked this Sayur Pahit with pork meat to eat together with the soup. It’s better to have some variety of dishes and not just one boring dish for dinner, right? :p
