Penang Trip 09, Day 1 – Part 1
Hi guys! If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed. TQ for visiting! :)
A lot of you have been asking me whether I’ll be posting a Penang Trip post on my blog, and the answer is yes! Of course!
But piles of documents and other works are still waiting for me at the office, and reaching home only around dinnertime, I don’t have enough time (and energy) to log onto the internet and continue straining my eyes on the computer. Plus, with taking care of Daisy’s hygiene and mealtime, and doing house chores, I’d already be pooped by 10pm. Sigh..
But anyway..
Yes, WC and I did a lot of food hunting during the trip, and we traveled foot, too! So darn tiring! But what was so great about the whole trip was that we didn’t have to spend a whole lot during the trip, because if we do, we’d probably have to sell our valuables or sell motorhome (if we have one, that is) to save us from debt when we get back!
But ehem.. anyway..
We stayed at PPisland Hotel in Georgetown, and it’s very close to Jalan Macalister, where a lot of old coffeeshops and food stalls are sold, especially at night!
We were told that PPisland Hotel is actually an old hotel, but it was renovated recently, so it looks (almost) as good as new!

PPisland Hotel, located at Lorong Abu Siti. The lane/area that apparently a lot of locals dread to drive to; the area are all single-laned!
Why do I say that? Because upon getting into a taxi from the airport, we told the driver to drive to the hotel, and he was complaining that it’s a single-laned road, and there’s lotsa traffic jams there, so it’s very hard to reach to that destination! I mean, we don’t care of that minor details lah; isn’t it his duty to drive and take us to our destination? Traffic jam and all?
And sighing in frustration (because of the traffic jam) during the WHOLE 1/2 hour journey? So annoying lah wei!
Oh, and I almost puked my Air Asia mee inside the taxi, because the driver’s driving skills is so horrible: jerking and breaking every few seconds, and wanting to speed like there’s no tomorrow! Ish!
Okay back to the hotel..

The lobby/reception area of PPisland Hotel. Quite nice, right?

Our (non-smoking) Superior Room on the 3rd floor, only RM78nett per night, so it’s only RM156 for 2 nights! It includes unlimited aircon usage, towels, soap/shampoo, and most importantly, an LCD tv! These are also the reasons why we chose PPisland Hotel instead of Tune Hotel!

We were also told that it’s quite safe to walk at night at Lorong Abu Siti out to Jalan Macalister; a lot of cars still passes by even late at night. Can’t say the same about Tune Hotel’s area though..
Anyway, as soon as we unpacked our stuffs, we walked right out and went to a coffeeshop that sells dim sum (they sell it the whole day!) just a few ‘houses’ away.

Their siew mai is tastes so different; there’s actually some texture to it, as compared to the usual dim sum here in KK, where the meat is so finely chopped/blended that you feel like eating a meatball instead. Their Kai Kiok (Chicken feet) tastes good too, but on the sweet and spicy side, the Ha Kau, or prawn dumplings also surprisingly has more taste in it, and the Wu Tao Kou (Taro Kueh), too.. I usually don’t take this kueh here in KK, but this one in Penang has a lot of taste in it.. it’s as if the tastes all goes inside the yam. Yummy!
And one great thing about eating in Penang: the food sold there are so cheap!! Locals there are so lucky!
After a cheap but delicious dim sum brunch, we then walked along Jalan Macalister on the cloudy Saturday to do some shopping!

You don’t see it on the pic above, but there are SO many kapcai bikes around! Drivers there also love to use the horns! Sikit-sikit honk! Good practice though, but slightly annoying lah!

Walking punya walking, we then reached Komtar! And we walked slightly further and reached..

Prangin Mall! Yeay! And inside..

We found this: Cool Blog that sells milky tea and smoothies! How cute is still stall?? So pink! And each name is the work “Blog” on it! So creative!
We rested there, shopped some, then rested summore, then shopped summore!
Okay, end of Penang Trip, Day 1-Part 1. Stay tuned for more photos!
