It's like almost a trend with FB to just confirm their attendance. It's pathetic to use it. I remember using FB for my 30th, 2 confirmed, but more than 20 showed up. I think it all boils down to calling them ONE by ONE - unfortunately. People still like to be ampu'd. That's the way of the world. I wish I could be there for this year's gathering, but I have 3 flying holidays planned that if I use more leave, I would be short for X'mas.
