First Time At The Murut Cultural Centre

Hi guys! If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed. TQ for visiting! :)

** Continuation from Daytrip to Where I Was Born **

After parents had some work done at Keningau, we then headed over to Tenom for more work purposes. And I managed to ask Dad to stop over at the Murut Cultural Centre as well! Wheeeeee!

Since I’m part Murut as well, of course I wanted to check out this place, and I wanted to show WC part of my culture back in the days too

Some preparations were being done for the Kalimaran Festival on the 26th & 27th April 2008

All the buildings were made of ‘Kayu Belian’ or ironwood. This wood can last for more than 100 years! How cool!

The Lansaran: an indoor trampoline place made of rattan. Click *here* to see a pic of the Murut Lansaran Dance. I used to love jumping up and down this thing back in the days! It was closed though when we were there.. :(

Where else did I go on my daytrip? Stay tuned for my next post! ;)

I wonder what kind of wood they used for that 1,001 Buddhas thing in Kyoto - it’s been there since the 9th century! Can kayu belian last 1,000 years too?

I think SELAGAN BATU wood.can reach that 1000yrs

If i am not mistaken, the Centre is the only building in the whole of Sabah made purely of belian wood. How cool is that? :)

BorneoMan, my dad said it’s actually Selangan Batu wood. And no, Kayu Belian lasts longer than Kayu Selangan Batu.

Melissa, yup! That’s correct! It IS very cool! ;)

Hi!,i think sabah Murut are the same ethnics as sarawak Lun Bawang,Kelabit or sipitang Lun dayeh right?
And how do you call “how are you”,is it “ANUN BALA”.makan called “KUMAN”

» JACQ said: { Apr 26, 2008 - 10:04:00 }

Murphy, yea WHEN I go back there.. Goodness knows where that is! Haha.. But it would be interesting to check out next time! Thanks for informing! :)

BorneoMan, ethnics? As in ways of living? According to my mom, she said there are many different types of Murut, so in answer to your first question, only the way they talk is different, I guess. How are you is “ATU ABAL MU”, makan is “MENGAAKAN”. This is how the Murut speaks in Keningau lah. Not sure about other places though, e.g. Pensiangan or Sook. Different lagi tu..

o.k!.now,i just realised that the Murut sabah & sarawak are different.some peoples called Lun Bawang(Lawas Area) also as Murut.no wonder, nowadays they wouldn’t be call that murut instead of Lun Bawang.
i think only sipitang ulu area(orang ulu) are the same ethnics as sarawak one,i understand their langguage same as lun bawang or kelabit, only the slang different.
