I Attended The Freedom Of Entry Ceremony

27 Apr

This year, WC and I managed to attend the night ceremony of the Freedom Of Entry event, which was held on Saturday night at the Padang Merdeka, thanks to Impedius and Amie. (some pics taken by her from this event *here*)

What is this Freedom Of Entry Ceremony, you ask?

Well, according to STB:

freedom-of-entry.jpgThe “Freedom of Entry Ceremony” is an old Naval Tradition that began during the medieval times, where the City or town council confers the right of the “Navy” to march with “Swords drawn, drums beating, band playing, colours flying and bayonets fixed”. The right to march through is usually conferred with a “Scroll” by the Lord Mayor. The ‘Scroll’ will then allow the Navy to exercise its newly conferred right to march through the city. The Colours are of great significance to each and every sailor, representing the central rallying point in battle in the event that they are separated from their colleagues during the melee.

This tradition signifies the true bonds of friendship, and often the expectation that the Navy whom the honour was bestowed upon would assist in the defence of the City. The Navy is then bound to protect the city from any invasion or attack………”

Anyways!

We only attended the night ceremony of this event. I seriously didn’t know anything about this, mainly because I didn’t see anybody blogging about this event before! (or maybe I missed the posts from those who did blogged about it, huh?)

Whatever lah. Pics time!

Jungle Girl

26 Apr

** Continuation from First Time At The Murut Cultural Centre **

After we were done with the Cultural Centre, parents then wanted to check out their lands around there as well. I thought they are just gonna look at the land from inside the car or something, but no! We had to walk into the jungle about 1km deep, after driving into the so-called road! ARRRGGGHHHhhh!

DSCN8473
See the so-called road? Good thing we used dad’s 4WD! Plantation road oh! You can jump around inside the car involuntarily! Think I bumped my head on the car ceiling a few times! LOL!

Then we had to stop our car when we reached the end of the plantation road, and we still had to walk about 1KM further inside to reach the river!

Me?? Walk on those horrendous downhill path?! Nooooooo!

But yes, I had no choice. Luckily WC was there to encourage me.. though barely! Hmph!

Clipboard
Yup, I was the last one to walk as I kept on complaining that I got bitten by mosquitoes all over my body! I probably have sweet blood, huh mosquitoes! But WC got fed up and walked nearer to my dad instead! LOL!

After what it seemed like a forever walk to nowhere, we finally reached the river!

Eeeiii suddenly got a bridge to the other side! But we were fine on this side of our land!

Cantik oh the place! Me likey!

Say cheese!

Seeing Dad taking a photo of WC made me do this as well:

Camwhore lagi! Ish ish ishh… But no bah.. it’s just a proof that I made it there safe and sound as well bah! ;)

After resting and enjoying the river for a while, we then made our way uphill. More torture!

As WC said it, by the time we reached Dad’s car, I was SO pamcit already! LOL! Seriously, WC had to pull my hand all the way to the car! It was really exhausting lah deiiii! Sweating to the max! Yuck!

Afro – daun ubi kayu style!

Mom couldn’t resist and took the daun kayu ubi which was available throughout the path! So Mom carried 2 bundles (1 on each hand), Dad the same, and WC the same too! She took enough to feed my whole kampung people in Keningau! LOL!

But like she said, so what lah.. It’s our land anyway.. so technically that makes it our veggies too huh! ;)

I thought once we reached the main Tenom-Keningau road, we would just go back to Keningau, but noooooo! One more stop inside the jungle, and this time it’s mom’s land! Urgh! More torture!

And this time there weren’t any path at all! Dad had to use the parang to clear some path for us!

Slash! Slash! goes the parang

Erm.. this is the end of our land, I guess?

This time we also reached the river (eh, no pic taken pula!), though luckily the walk in wasn’t as far as the one previously. But it was sure messy, though!

And yes, WC had to pull me back up again back to the car, as it was another uphill path.

I am so out of shape la weiii! And this trip made me realise even more of how much of a city gurl I am now! Cisss!
