Louis Pang Seminar Part 2
Hi guys! If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed. TQ for visiting! :)
On the first half of the seminar, I was busy jotting down notes and took very little pics. Then I figured, gosh, I’m missing out on a lot of photo taking opportunities! So on the second half of the seminar, I asked WC to jot down the important things mentioned by Louis, while I can concentrate on my pictures.
I haven’t really had the chance to take moving pics in tungsten lighting before, so I had a bit of trouble figuring out how many ‘K’ should my white balance be. Take one pic, then too orange. Take another, too yellow, and another, too blue…. argghhh..
Anyway, more pics!

Louis showing the crowd how he does his magic on his clients.. I think his expression here funny lah.. hehe..

The scene during break

Munchies! Wanted to take pics of all the food, but couldn’t as all the food were surrounded by so many people

Not forgetting drinks too! Tea, anyone?
After the break..

Louis showed the basic enhancements that he usually does in Photoshop

Another pic with a ’sot’ white balance. Ended up just putting it to b/w. Louis must’ve thought that I’m weird as to take so many pics of him lol..

Just before the seminar ended.. checkin’ to see whether everybody was still awake hehe..

And finally, I was so sad that Sir George got the present that I’ve been eyeing on since I came in!
* My WB is all over the place lah adeiiiii! Still need to figure out the best configuration under tungsten lighting and indoors
Help anyone??

So are you ready to take my portrait?
next time take the photo in RAW and do the white balance correction in post process.
point to ponder: why you didn’t ask the expert while you on the seminar? did he talk about white balance thing?
Hi. Just dropping by. Came across your blog while searching for information on radius international hotel.Doesn’t your camera have a manual wb? anyway, hope to see you use the 7 extraordinary keys…
cheers.
Jacq: I shoot in JPEGs only. I was shooting RAW but I am back to JPEGS in 2008. Makes more sense and takes less time since I can get it right on camera.
Fluke ba tu JacQ
JacQ here’s my coverage thanx for the pics http://sir-george.blogspot.com/2008/03/ordinary-to-extraordinary-by-louis-pang.html
I think you can set the WB to in between 4k to 6k and set the ISO high. A200 can survive till 3200 ISO without grainy. But then, you have to test with different level of WB just to make sure.
Just my opinion.
I think Tungsten can be used in indoor and dim lighting + yellow lamp were used in the room / hall.
For tungsten lighting, use Tungsten WB - if it is still too yellow for you, use Kelvin WB. Try 2800K… if too yellow, then go down to 2500K. I leave my Kelvin WB for 2500K all the time.
Jewelle Tan, erm.. lemme get a better lens dulu ahh..
jefferi, I did take my pics in RAW, but I want to make it right on camera in the future, that’s why I’m asking for the WB advice leh.. And no, shy lah wanna ask abt the WB question in front of everyone heh..
polester, hello there! Yes I’m using manual WB lah, but in Sony dslr, you can manually set how many ‘K’ your WB is, and I want to know usually what is the best range.
Louis, ahh the photography genius is in da house!! OMG! Haha.. Okay lah, I follow you and shoot in jpegs lah! Thanks for the advice ya! And for droppin by this humble blog of mine
SirGeorge, iyerrr, u say fluke, lagi lah I feel unlucky lol.. and for the pics, you’re welcome
saifulrizan, yes I know that. I always used my program mode in my compact camera before this, so I know about using tungsten mode. I meant about the number of ‘K’ in the WB bah for Sony dSLR.. thanks anyway..
Albert Ng, finally! Somebody who’s also using a Sony dSLR commented! LOL.. Yes, I find that using the tungsten WB is still too yellow, that’s why I was talking about the ‘K’ WB. So the ‘K’ stands for Kelvin huh? Okay, I didn’t know that haha.. And yes, I was using the range 2500-2700 at that time, and just wasn’t sure if it was correct. Thanks for answering my question! SONY juga lahhh! Haha..
*no offense Louis! Nikon rocks too! My compact camera is a Nikon! hehe..*
