Personal Update & Dining @ Jeff D’ Corner

Am still coughing all the time, and today, I had a bonus: Miss Migraine came and visit as well (of all the days), and refused to leave until the evening! So basically I was in bed all day long, with my head feeling as heavy as a bowling ball and eyes felt like being stabbed. Was pure torture. Had to take painkillers just before WC takes me out for dinner (luckily he’s back from outstation, as parents are away for the weekend and bro’s in China).
We ate for the first time at Jeff D’ Corner, a place that supposedly have the best steak and BBQ lamb in the whole of Kota Kinabalu. And my verdict? Riiiiiiight. Obviously a personal opinion when they said this. Because I don’t agree. And I’ll explain why.

My lamb chop and WC’s Mixed Grill (excuse the pic quality; used my cameraphone as I forgotten to bring my camera)
I can’t argue about the BBQ lamb yet (one of their signature dishes, I guess), because neither of us have tried it, but I ordered the Lamb Chop (RM11), and WC ordered the Mixed Grill (RM17). We were surprised that the food came quickly after we ordered (plus sign!), but I was a bit disappointed that the lamb portion was small (though they did try to make it up by having more stuff on the side dishes).
After having my first bite on the lamb, I was disappointed again. Not to say that it wasn’t delicious; it was more like.. nothing special to it. I guess after having heard that they serve the best steak and bla bla, both our expectations were high. But nope, we weren’t impressed with the taste of the food, what more of the portion (so little). Even after finishing my food, I still wasn’t full! WTF!
So yeah. We’d very much prefer Archies D’ Corner or Harris D’ Corner (portion-wise) or JJ Western Food (best value-for-money) any day as compared to Jeff D’ Corner. But don’t get me wrong people, Jeff D’ Corner still serve good food (and the waitress was SO nice to us, another plus sign!), but in our opinion, WC and I both think that it was just like any other normal steak eating place in KK; nothing memorable about the food, sorry to say (though the environment is okay.. not that hot). Maybe if we had tried the BBQ lamb, then we’d probably change our opinion..?
Okay anywayy..

Grabbed this pic of me from the Sony Alpha forum just now. Hehe.. Pirut took this pic of me playing with the 75-300mm telephoto lens during our TT Session. I’m sure this lens would come in handy one day, but for now, I don’t need any telephoto lens just yet. But me likey this pic, though!

**Will not be putting Jeff D’ Corner post into my food blog as I’m not impressed with it

Guess most people are sick lately. *cough* Western food is out for me. Too heaty… Amie and I went to Vegas in Damai and i think she too is not so impressed with the western food there like you did with Jeff’s. Same here for me as i tried the asian food there. Service was good though and nice setting.

The food actually looks pretty nice and yummy. Can’t really comment on the taste though since I’ve never eaten there before. Guess it’s better not to put too high an expectation when you’re looking for “good” western food, especially not when you get it for under RM 15 per serving.
I patronise these outlets when I want a quick fill and to satisfy any sudden cravings for western food that might suddenly arise out of nowhere, but when I want “quality” and a nice dinner out, I opt to go to a fancy restaurant instead.
Sigh. I can never be a food critic

So the review said the tenderloin and BBQ lamb is the best in KK, but you try the mixed-grill (featuring sirloin) and lamb chop and then say you disagree with the review. Hu?
Perhaps try the tenderloin and BBQ lamb and then compare your findings. Apples vs. apples mah.
