A Halo Afternoon

11 Oct

Hi guys! If you're new here, you should subscribe to my RSS feed. TQ for visiting! :)

WeiChuen brought me to Wisma Merdeka during lunch time to make my spec today, and everywhere we go, we heard everyone was saying about the ring around the sun outside, and how everybody is taking pics of it. So after everything was done, I dragged BF to the entrance near Hyatt hotel, and looked up. And this is what we all saw:

That’s a huge halo! But a cool one to look at (through the camera of course) nonetheless! Here’s a slightly bigger pic of the halo:

Cool phenomenon indeed. So did you guys took a pic of it too?

We photographers have a rule of thumb and that’s “do not shoot anything that hurts your eyes.” The sun can damage the camera’s aperture blades and of course your retinas if you were shooting with a DSLR. If you Google this, you’ll find pages of discussions between people who say it can and those who deny such problems exist. Regardless of who may be right or wrong, I would err on the side of caution and not take such risks.

I came across one forum member who posted a link to a sample of sun-damaged camera. Warning: Not a pretty sight http://www.ryloth.nt-uploader.com/D50%20Fun/D50-4.jpg

another “insider” info: I think that Malaysian space tourist must’ve been involved in this. He must’ve played batu seremban and somehow cocked it up. :-P

my sister called me yesterday lunch time and ask me this funny questions “Is the sun in KK is the same as in KL?” I was wondering what does she means. Now, I understand why.

But when I try to see the scene, I wasn’t able to as the sun is surround by tick cloud in KL. So I miss the real scene.
